This approximately 6-inch Dogface Puffer, Arothron nigropunctatus, is a striking, personable addition to a suitably planned marine aquarium. Its rounded body, prominent eyes, and distinctive beak-like teeth give the species its characteristic expressive appearance. Individual coloration and markings can vary, making each specimen visually unique.

Dogface Puffers are intelligent, curious fish that often investigate activity around their surroundings. They are not reef compatible: they may nip or consume invertebrates, including corals and crustaceans. Their semi-aggressive nature also calls for thoughtful selection of tankmates and plenty of room as they grow.

Offer a varied diet appropriate for marine puffers, such as seafood-based meaty foods and suitable hard-shelled items. Consult an experienced aquarist about diet and dental care, and provide stable water conditions with ample swimming space. With a mature size of up to about 13 inches, this fish requires long-term planning and an aquarium of at least 75 gallons.
