The Hardwicke Wrasse is a vibrant, active fish that brings dynamic movement and color to established reef aquariums. This species features striking blue and green coloration with distinctive markings that intensify as it matures.
Native to Indo-Pacific coral reef environments, the Hardwicke Wrasse is an intermediate-level fish best suited for experienced aquarists. It requires a minimum tank size of 75 gallons with plenty of open swimming space and live rock for hiding. The fish grows to approximately 8 inches at maturity.
This species is aggressive and territorial, particularly toward other wrasses and smaller fish. It is not reef compatible and will prey on invertebrates, crustaceans, and small fish. Provide a varied diet of meaty foods including mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and quality marine flakes. The Hardwicke Wrasse is an excellent swimmer and jumper—ensure a secure, well-fitted aquarium lid.
Water conditions should be maintained at 72–78°F with stable salinity and pH between 8.1–8.3. Regular water changes and strong filtration support optimal health and coloration.
