Unlike regukar peppermint shrimp, these are very hardy and cleans up the aiptasia in your tank very fast and can be kept for a long time.
Lysmata kuekenthali (commonly known as Kuekenthal's cleaner shrimp or red striped shrimp) are widely used as a natural biological control to eradicate pest Aiptasia anemones in marine aquariums. They are considered highly effective, sometimes even outperforming standard Peppermint shrimp (Lysmata wurdemanni).
Key Behavioral Traits
- Group Hunting: While a single shrimp may consume very small Aiptasia, they are much more effective when kept in groups of three or more. They will often team up, with one shrimp pinning the anemone to the rockwork while the others attack it from behind.
- Multi-Talented Scavengers: Aside from clearing out pest anemones, they serve as excellent tankmates that help clean skin parasites off fish and scavenge uneaten food and detritus.
- This is like a combincation of cleaner shrimp and Peppermint shrimp. Both cleans ectoparasites on fish like a regular cleaner shrimp and eats aiptasia like a peppermint shrimp too. Does both.
